V roku 1995 autor Satoshi Tajiri priniesol do spoločnosti Nintendo ukázať svoj námet o Pokémonoch a rozpútal tak celosvetový ošiaľ počítačovej hry, na základe ktorej vznikol v roku 1998 japonský animovaný seriál s vyše dvesto epizódami. Desaťročný chlapec Ash má jeden obrovský sen chce sa stať pánom virtuálnych postavičiek a príšeriek Pokémonov. Vydá sa preto do sveta s cieľom stať sa majstrom v Lige Pokémonov. Spolu zo svojim verným Pokémonom Pikaču sa bude snažiť vybojovať osem odznakov na postup do ligy. Ash, Pikaču a pokemonskí kamaráti musia zachrániť všetkých vzácnych pokémonov pred ich zlými lovcami. Maskovaní nepriatelia ich môžu pomocou techniky a výbojov premeniť napríklad na zlých duchov. Ash, Misty, Brock a Pikaču sa preto musia vrhnúť do nekonečných dobrodružstiev a zachrániť svet!
